Recycled Rubber Mulch has Many Benefits

If you are still using traditional wood or bark mulch in your landscaping, you should consider rubber mulch the next time you re-mulch.

Rubber mulch is made exclusively from 100% recycled rubber, obtained from used tires. The tires are shredded to give the rubber the appearance of wood or bark, and then colorized through a variety of methods. Almost every type of traditional mulch appearance is represented by some type of rubber mulch.

Rubber mulch is more expensive to purchase than regular mulch, but its benefits quickly make up for the difference in price. Rubber mulch will not compress like regular mulch. It also will not attract or harbor insects, nor will fungus or mold grow on it. In addition to these features, the color of rubber mulch takes much longer to fade than that of conventional mulches. It’s also superior in the sense that it will not wash away during heavy rains, or blow away due to wind or the use of a leaf blower.

While wood and bark mulch must be replaced annually, rubber mulch lasts at least five years, sometimes as many as ten, without needing replacement. It’s the long life of rubber mulch that makes it worth the higher price tag.
